Following God’s Will When Others Don’t Understand
She reached for the banister – and it wasn’t there.
A friend of mine got out of bed in the middle of the night to go downstairs without turning on the light. Unable to see properly, she missed the banister, fell down the stairs and broke several ribs.
She knew those stairs. She’d walked down them countless times before. The problem wasn’t knowing where she was going. She was trying to get there in the dark.
Lazarus died, and after two days Jesus told His disciples they were going back to Judea. They immediately questioned Him. The last time He had been there, people had tried to stone Him. Going back didn’t seem sensible.
Jesus answered them with this:
Verse of the Week
‘Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.’ —John 11:9–10

Jesus knew exactly where He was going. He was walking in the will of His Father.
There will be times when you know God has clearly given you direction, yet other people don’t understand it. They may question you or point out all the reasons why it doesn’t make sense.
Jesus wasn’t being reckless by returning to Judea. He knew He was doing His Father’s will.
God’s direction won’t always look sensible to everyone around you. Abraham left without knowing where he was going. Peter stepped out of a perfectly good boat. Jesus returned to Judea.
If you know God has shown you something, walk in the light He has given you. There is no safer place to be than in His will.
Is there something God has asked you to do that you’ve hesitated over because it doesn’t make sense to someone else? Will you trust His direction and keep walking in the light?
Until next week,
Have a blessed day and keep shining!
