What Does It Really Mean to Delight in the Lord?
We often hear people say, ‘God has placed dreams in your heart.’
I believe that's true.
But have you ever wondered why Psalm 37 doesn't begin with the dream?
It begins with the Dream Giver.
Perhaps that's because before God wants us to focus on what He's called us to do, He wants us to know Him more deeply.

Verse of the Week
'Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.'
– Psalm 37:4
It's one of the most quoted verses in the Bible.
But I wonder how many of us have ever paused over the first few words.
What does it really mean to delight yourself in the Lord?
When I looked into the Hebrew word for delight, I discovered it means far more than simply being happy.
It carries the idea of taking deep pleasure in someone. Savouring their company. Finding your joy in them. Even luxuriating in their presence.
I loved that picture.
To luxuriate is to linger because you're enjoying yourself.
Think about sitting in the sunshine on a warm afternoon. Or watching a beautiful sunset without checking the time. You're not trying to achieve anything. You're simply enjoying the moment.
What if that's what God is inviting us to do?
The next time you spend time with Him, simply slow down.
Read a few verses and linger over them.
Thank Him for His goodness.
Worship Him for who He is.
Sit quietly in His presence for a few moments.
Allow yourself to enjoy being with Him, remembering that He delights in spending time with you too.
As we enjoy Him more, something beautiful happens. Our hearts begin to reflect His heart. As we grow closer to the Lord, the dreams He has placed within us begin to come into sharper focus.
Perhaps that's why delight comes before desire.
This week, don't just spend time with God.
Spend time enjoying Him.
Tell Him what you love about Him.
Luxuriate in His presence.
You may discover that your greatest delight isn't simply the dreams He has given you…
…but the One who gave them.
Until next week,
Have a blessed day and keep shining! ✨
